Game of the Week #567

At the moment there are several interesting top tournaments running. In the Superbet Chess Classic Ding and Nepo meet again after their exciting World Championship Match, and in the TePe Sigeman & Co tournament in Malmö, Sweden, the young talents showed their skills.

The game we liked the most from the Sigeman & Co tournament is the very instructive strategical performance by Gukesh versus Keymer from round two. A tricky novelty was followed by systematic improvement of the position, leading to a lethal attack.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
