Game of the Week #560

While the German Bundesliga is always interesting to follow, I didn’t quite find a game that stood out for me.

Therefore I started checking the American Cup, and while at first that basically seemed like a collection of Berlin Defences, the unconventional game Dominguez-Nakamura suddenly stood out as the right fit for the Game of the Week. A sharp opening choice, a complex middlegame structure and non-standard decisions make for a very interesting game to study.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
