Game of the Week #559

Last week we saw the most impressive start of Anton Korobov at the individual European Championship. After 5 out of 5 he reached 7 out of 8, but then the big clash with Alexey Sarana followed, who was half a point behind.

Sarana has an equally massive positional style with tactical punch. Both the middlegame and the technical stage were very instructive, which makes it our Game of the Week.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
