Game of the Week #546

Merijn Van Delft: "Last week I shared a game from the Benidorm Open, where I had a tense Hedgehog position, failed to sacrifice a pawn with d5 at the right moment and went on to lose. Two rounds later I returned to my trusted Najdorf and had a very interesting battle with very few mistakes against the friendly and talented K Priyanka from India. In the end it turned out to be a good win, which I'm happy to share."

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

K Priyanka - M. Van Delft, Benidorm 2022
Position after 15.Ne3

This week’s show

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
