A demonstration on the main street in front of our hotel

A pro choice section marches past – astonishing in Catholic Mexico

An elderly man in a wheel-chair is part of the demonstration for women's
rights

In the playing hall Anand has arrived early and, like the photographers,
waits for Kramnik to appear

Now that he's there the game can begin

The game turns into a well-researched Semi-Slav

Anand plays quickly and confidently – obviously he has done his homework

Peter Svidler vs Alexander Morozevich at the start of their Caro Kann game

Making his move: Svidler has played 3.Nd2, and Morozevich is going to capture
3...dxe4

That's my first move – any ideas? Levon Aronian (right) vs Alexander Grischuk

Meanwhile Anand and Kramnik have dug into the game

The game has progressed to a critical position

What's going on here? Kramnik ponders the position before 29.Kh1

Anand planning his reply to this move, which he knows must come

Alexander Morozevich working hard in his game against Peter Svidler...

...who is eager to chalk up a first win in this tournament

After the game (drawn in 41 moves) Kramnik and Anand ananlyse in the press
room

The dissection of their game is conducted in a light-hearted, amicable spirit

The press conference with Anand and Kramnik is packed

Journalist and photographers jostle and struggle to get the best place

Meanwhile Aruna Anand and Kema Goryaeva (from the Elista FIDE office) make friends

And today's winner: Armenian GM Levon Aronian
