The man of the week is Polish GM Mateusz Bartel (2621) who performed an absolute incredible 8/9 in the Polish Ekstraliga, gaining 30 rating points!

In the eighth round, he crushed Aryan Tari in only 18 moves in spectacular fashion — an experience a lot of club players can relate to. In an Italian opening the concept of creating a half-open f-file with Be3, Bxe3, fxe3 worked very well.

A careless response by Black, underestimating the consequences of the typical sacrifice on f7 leading to a position with two minor pieces for the rook, enabled White to seize the initiative.

Exercise: How should White play now?

Feel free to move the pieces on the live diagram!
