1-0
 Peter Svidler
Levon Aronian
½-½
 Bu Xiangzhi

Topalov,V (2791) - Svidler,P (2727) [D86]
Pearl Spring Nanjing CHN (5), 15.12.2008
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.e4 Nxc3 6.bxc3 Bg7 7.Bc4 c5 8.Ne2 Nc6 9.Be3 0-0 10.0-0 Bd7 11.Rb1 Qc7 12.Bd3 Rfd8 13.h3. A new move by Topalov. Two years ago Berkes played 13.Qc1 and beat Sutovsky in 49 moves. 13...Be8 14.d5 Ne5 15.c4 e6 16.Nf4 Rab8 17.Be2 Rd6 18.Qc2 Ra6

19.Rb5! A fine exchange sacrifice advocated Rybka 3 in a couple of minutes. White wants the pawn on c5. 19...Bf8. Black does not dare to accept the offering. 20.a4. Topalov insists, and 20...Bxb5 Svidler acquiesces, unlike our chess engines, which want to leave the rook alone. 21.cxb5 Rd6 22.Qc3 Bg7 23.Qxc5 Rc8 24.Qxa7 b6 25.Qxc7 Rxc7. Now White has a bishop and two pawns for his rook. 26.Rd1

26...Bf6? Black was in considerable trouble, but this speeds his demise. 27.dxe6 Rxd1+ 28.Bxd1 fxe6 29.Bb3 and Black resigned, since there is no plausible way for him to defend his b6 and e6 pawns. 1-0.
