Tips on the tactics training App

Answer

The Tactics App which is there whenever you want it offers you the chance to exercise your eye for tactics in a targeted fashion with randomly selected positions from the server. A famous player once said: “Chess is 99% tactics”. This App allows you to undertake systematic training on any computer in this important area for practical playing strength.

When working with the App many players come up against a problem. The App may give specific tips that the solution which has been entered is false, but apart from that it hardly provides any hints or helping positions.  Many players would also like to know why a particular alternative is not considered by the App to be the best. Here the use of an engine could provide further help in gaining an impression as to the value of the alternative continuation.

But a click on the button “Engine” in the toolbar does not provide any more help.

The App does not allow you to use the engine after you have loaded the position which is to be solved. So the user must first solve the position.

He either finds the solution immediately or must keep on trying alternative until the solution is found. After the solution to the position has been found, there is no notation window in which to navigate through the notation.

But by using the arrow keys on the keyboard it is possible to go back through the moves and via the Engine button to start the infinite analysis function of the chess engine!

After the infinite analysis of the engine is running, simply enter the moves which you originally wanted to play. Now the engine will immediately provide you with a specific evaluation and you will be able to see the best counter-move. There is no restriction here and you will understand the tactical subtleties of the position displayed even better! You should logically make use of this procedure for the understanding of more complex positions before moving on to the next tactical position.
