Question: I recently acquired Komodo 10 and have some questions about how to use it. In the engine window a percentage is displayed.
A right click allows one to choose the mode: Move/Time or Hash-Info/Automatic. What are the meanings of these modes and the percentages given?
In the window next to it, where the best variations are displayed, there is in each case an indication of depth=xx in different colours (blue, green, red). What do these colours mean?
Answer: “Move/Time or Hash-Info/Automatic. What are the meanings of these modes and the percentages given?” In the display you will either find information about the utilisation of the hashtable which is installed or the time spent analysing the current move.
“In the window next to it, where the best variations are displayed, there is in each case an indication of depth=xx in different colours (blue, green, red). What do these colours mean?”
This question has to do with the Let`s Check function. Let’s Check recognises three thresholds for the depth of calculation. The “green” threshold is the lowest and is reached in approximately a minute on any half-way modern computer with a deep-engine. Assessments beneath this threshold are ignored in automatic evaluations such as the display of main variations.
The blue threshold corresponds to a depth of calculation which is necessary for the “clarification” of a position. A red indication of depth leads to the announcement in the chat window “Deep analysis” and can on an up-to-date computer with four processors take up to an hour.
