Centipawn analysis

Answer

With the support of the strong chess engine, one can quickly determine how many moves in a game correspond to the moves favored by the engine. A special analysis option is to compare the engine's evaluation of a move with its own choice of the best move and check to what extent the evaluations differ. With the centipawn analysis in ChessBase this option is available to you!

This analysis function serves as a tool that can be run as an independent game check with an engine, or as part of tactical analysis. In short, it analyzes each move to see what was the best engine move and its rating, and then the played move and its rating, and compares the relative centipawn loss, if any. So there is a concrete comparison between the actual game move played, including its rating, and the rating of the engine's favored move.

When you open a single game in ChessBase, you can also perform a pure and quick analysis by going to the Analysis menu and selecting the function Centipede Analysis.

This function allows you to analyze specifically games of a particular player or tournament.

The centipawn analysis provides a report at the end of the game that informs you about the average error rate during the game.

The program allows you not only to analyze a single game, but also to perform analyses for several games and thus determine the average performance of all the players involved.

First, we open a list of all the games in the tournament and then select the games we want to analyze.

Now press the Analysis function and click on Centipawn Analysis.

The feature gives you a full summary of the run, as well as graphs showing their relative centipawn error rate compared to Elo performance.

However, if you want to work with the data, you don't have to settle for that. In the folder where the actual database is located, you will find an Excel spreadsheet with detailed breakdowns. The CSV file can be found in the folder where the database is stored.

Note that the Excel file generated by the program is named after the database with which you performed the analysis. Thus, if you run the centipawn analysis on a subset of lots of the mega, each time you run the centipawn analysis, the previous Excel file will be overwritten with the same name.

So the centipawn analysis function helps to test the game moves based on the engine analysis. It is a very good way to check the consistency throughout the games.
