Examples Player index

Answer

You can use the player index to standardise the spelling of player names within a database. Start the list window of a database and activate the player index on the tab "Players".

Mark the player entries to be standardised by holding down the CTRL key and clicking with the mouse. A right click starts the context menu, here you will find the entry "Edit". Alternatively, you can also call up the menu with F2.

The value of a database in terms of meaningful statistics depends crucially on careful editing of the spellings for player names. The statistics are closely related to the reliability of the data.

With ChessBase, the spellings of player names in the player index can be automatically improved and corrected.

Start the player index of any database. --> Click on the entry "Players" in the list.

The function can be found via the ribbon - Improve Player Names.

ChessBase offers a variety of search functions, e.g. by player name. Instead of searching for players in the "normal" search mask, access via the player index is much more efficient. The player index can be found in every game list of an open database. The player index is available in the database programme as well as in the chess programs!

The index therefore offers fast and accurate results when searching for players, especially in unedited databases, e.g. with your internet games from our server!

Let's assume you are looking for games of the player Leonhard Hanke via the search mask. The search result lists the games of the player Hanke, but there are also games of a player Hanker listed.

How do I get only the games of the player Hanke?

In this example, the player index is the quickest way. Open the database to be searched and activate the player index by clicking on the Player tab.  At the bottom of the screen you will find the input line "Search", there you enter the name.

The game list with games of the selected player is in the game window to the right of the entries from the player index. In addition, the programme provides a list of all tournaments played by the selected player.
