Searched and found!

Answer

The new simplified search screen of ChessBase 17 provides quick access to the information stored in the databases. A main application when working with databases will be searching for a specific player. Let's take a look at how to realize the search with the new search mask by means of a simple example.

I am searching in a database for games of the player Magnus Carlsen. Right click on the database to be searched -> Search - Player starts the new dialog.

In the input line I type the letters of the player, the program offers directly the matching entries. I now select the desired player whose games I want to filter out of the database.

After this step is done, I confirm the search by clicking OK.

The program displays the number of games found to the left of the progress bar. After clicking Search, the program opens the game list with all the games that match the selected search criterion Carlsen.

You can refine the result or the search at any time. Another right click on the database -> Search - Advanced leads to the goal.

The input given so far is taken over in the extended search mask and you have the possibility to refine the search. The screenshot shows as further criterion the result 1:0, however, you could use also each of the other available criteria, e.g., the ECO classification for the refinement of the search.

If you take over the criterion Result, you will see that in the used database 1545 games correspond to the search criterion!

A click on Search returns - as described before - the corresponding game list.

Tip: if you want to start a completely new search query, perform a reset via the Reset button. This will delete the previously used search parameters.
