Evaluate openings quickly

Answer

Do you want to expand or change your opening repertoire with a certain variation? Is the targeted opening suitable for me, how should I assess it? The active tournament player is constantly confronted with these questions. ChessBase17 can quickly provide a basis for evaluating a system.

With the opening report function, you can significantly reduce the workload of viewing the selected system and preparing for training. Starting from the current board position, the program generates an overview with the information from the reference database, which gives important information about the selected variation in the form of a database text.

If the suitable board position is on the graphical chess board, one starts the function under the menu item Report - Opening Report.

As an example, we show here the result from a standard variant of the Caro Kann defense. After running the opening report via the reference database, the report provides the following information in text form, e.g. about the typical plans/strategies within the system.

Which continuations are particularly promising? For the sake of practicality, this information takes into account only games of players with a high Elo rating within the database.

What are the plans? What are the main variants, which plays are especially critical?

Extensive information on the success rate, draw rate, game length, etc. is of course also provided by the opening report. The program focuses on practical aspects when evaluating the reference database and immediately provides the player with ready-made repertoire suggestions (!) or presents the typical maneuvers in order to quickly familiarize the user with the most important basic ideas of the chosen system. A targeted opening preparation is not possible any faster and more effective, only you have to play by yourself ...

The program outputs the aforementioned information in a database text, which can be saved for later viewing or evaluation.

The references and links included within the database text refer of course to the previously defined reference database and can at the moment only be stored there. Alternatively, one can start a corresponding position search within the reference database, copy the games into a new database and then generate the opening report for this database.

The opening report function takes an immense amount of work off the user's hands when sifting through interesting games and is a valuable tool for preparing opening training.
