Reverse search function - Tip

Answer

Question: I want to filter out all games from a database that were not played by certain players. Is it possible to use one of the logical parameters, such as "Not" in the search mask for this purpose? It is clear that this entry starts an inverse search query. But how can I find all games in the search mask, which were not played by two certain players? Can this be done by an "Or" search in the fields for White or Black?

Answer: Within the fields of the extended search mask no logical links can be created. However, the desired search result (all games of a database that were not played by two specific players) can be realized with the following method.

  • First create a backup copy of the used database!

  • Open the player index of the database.

  • In the player index, select the player entry of the player whose games should not be displayed and mark his games as "deleted".

  • In the next step, select the second player from the index and delete his games as well.

  • The remaining games within the database now correspond exactly to the original search target.

Now copy the remaining games into a new database. With the second tab within the search mask you can list the games marked as deleted and remove the attribute "deleted" again.
