Tactics over and over again Tactics ....

Answer

A main focus in the functionality of our programs puts on the training of tactical skills, this is for many active tournament players an important part of the home training. For this purpose you will find many online functions, e.g. the app Tactics Training.

Our database program ChessBase and the chess programs offer a useful option in the extended search mask, with which you can quickly filter out games from a database in which sacrificial combinations occurred. In the advanced search mask you can find this option under the Position tab.

Let's have a look at this function, how you can find appropriate games with the program.

If you activate the option "Sacrifice" with a check mark, the program automatically searches for all games in the database in which material was sacrificed in the short term.

You can easily combine this option with other search criteria. This criterion offers a lot of possibilities to find interesting tactical game positions and to use them for your own training.

For example, the search for sacrifices has been combined with the search for games of the legendary grandmaster David Bronstein (one of the most gifted tacticians in chess history) under the section Game data in the search mask.

The setting in the screenshot searches for sacrifice games in which Bronstein had White (ignore colors disabled) and won them. (1-0).

The program immediately filters all games of Bronstein from the selected database and lists them in the list window.

By double-clicking, the game is loaded directly with the position corresponding to the search criterion!

With the search for sacrifices you can quickly find a rich selection of suitable positions for home training. If you use ChessBase with access to current game databases (e.g. chess journalists or chess editors) the function provides you with another practical tool for sifting through current tournaments to quickly filter out spectacular games of a certain player from the multitude of new games.
