Many users appreciate the numerous commentary options, which can all be saved together with the games. Very popular, for example, are the graphical annotations that directly show the replayer certain constellations of forces on the chessboard.
In contrast to other data formats, e.g. the text-based PGN in Ascii format, this was previously only possible with the CBH format. A disadvantage of the CBH format is that a CBH database consists of many different files, in which information about the players, tournaments etc. and the search accelerator are stored.
With the new program version we have developed a newly designed database format, which offers a simpler handling as well as some brand new innovative features. Many of these features can be found described elsewhere within the ChessBase Wiki.
The new 2CBH format gets along with much less single files, so the program can execute function orders of the program much faster and easier.
This is clearly visible in elementary database functions like searching for duplicates, conversions to other formats etc.
One of the frequently asked questions of the users refers to the interaction with other program versions, e.g. Fritz18 or Komodo Dragon 3.
Here the following procedure is offered for CB 17 users:
You can still process the CBH format with Cb17, which is unrestrictedly compatible with the chess programs, respectively "understood" by the programs. Alternatively, you can always convert a database in 2CBH format to the older CBH format with little effort.
Right-clicking on a database icon provides the following context menu:
Of course, in future new versions of our chess programs the 2CBH format will also be fully supported!
