ChessBase17 offers a lot of possibilities to search for games within a database. As before, the classic dialog for defining the search criteria (maneuvers, material, etc.) is available. In practice, the user will often search criteria such as players, tournaments, etc.. The frequently used functions are now clearly arranged in an easy to use dialog. This is new and very powerful and helps the user to operate the program quickly.

The new dialog looks like this:

However, there are some subtleties to consider. For example, if you enter "Caru" under Player, the classic search mask will find games by "Carucci", "Caruso" and "Caruana".

With the new search mask, a selection list appears:

If you simply click OK, the first player in the list (with the highest number of matches) will be selected.

We would also like to point out the newly defined material search.

The material balance is defined by clicking the buttons on the right side. Searching for lots in which this material distribution occurred takes only a few seconds, even in a very large database in the new 2CBH format.
