Detect sacrifices and recognize tactical moments

Answer

ChessBase 17 offers the possibility to recognize material sacrifices within a notation and to mark them transparently for the user! At the bottom of the screen there is a red button. A mousever indicates which spectukalary function is hidden here.

If the button "Detect Sacrifies" is clicked, all positions within the notation in which a victim occurs are automatically marked and you can use these positions training material.

Now we have to define what is meant by a sacrifice, or how the software classifies a sacrifice. A "sacrifice" is initiated by a move in which a player voluntarily offers (sacrifices) one or more pieces for capture. The goal is to at least compensate the material disadvantage resulting from the acceptance of the sacrifice by other advantages (time gain, space gain, positional factors). The opponent can accept or reject the sacrifice.

The procedure is highly interesting for journalists when they want to sift through games from current tournaments for exciting games. With the first click you set the beauty values for the database, then load the first games from the list and use "Mark Victims" to show the tactical highlights of the game. The function offers excellent training material with one click and shows the astonished ordinary mortal what the top players see, but also just overlook!
