Cloud databases

Answer

Storage of user data on the Internet on external cloud servers is standard nowadays. The storage of databases in a cloud is supported by Chessbase directly on our servers.  This provides the ChessBase user with an option useful for backup copies, in addition to storing data on the local hard drive.

Another advantage of storing via cloud is that users can access their data directly from different computers (desktop, mobile, tablet) and locations. In addition, you can make selected databases available to other people, e.g. for training purposes or for a data exchange.

Access to the databases stored in the cloud is possible using two methods. Either you access your databases directly via browser or directly from the ChessBase database program.

Menu Home - Cloud Databases.

The first way to access is directly from the database program.

Important: make sure that you are logged in with your ChessBase account!

If you are logged in, you can access the reserved server area via the menu Start - Cloud Databases. The databases are also displayed here in icon form.

Note: In the status bar at the bottom of the database window you can see the account name, connection status and the used storage space within the cloud.

You create a new database in the cloud via the New button or with the key combination CTRL + X.

The file extension for cloud databases is *.cbcloud.

After you have created new cloud databases, you can and should insert games in the next step. You can do this directly from the board window or you select selected games from the database list of another database, copy them via CTRL+C into the Windows clipboard.  Switch to the cloud database and paste the games with the shortcut CTRL+V. The database is updated with each save to the cloud.

You can access the cloud databases from any computer using a browser and logged-in ChessBase account.

You can allow other people to access these databases. For example, if you want to share the games of a tournament, it is very easy via Cloud. Just right-click on the database you want to share and select Database Sharing

Should the user only be able to open or view the games? Or may he also make changes with analyses and comments?

In the configuration dialog, you can specify the options you want.

In addition, the dialog offers the possibility to publish the games on the Internet! For this purpose, the program generates a clickable link that you can simply forward to the target person.

With an active ChessBase account, you can use the "My Games" app to access and edit the stored cloud databases directly via the browser. Start the browser and launch the "My Games" app.

You will find all the functions you need to edit your databases and games. Access via browser is especially useful if you want to access your data from a smartphone, tablet or other desktop computer.
