Change opening - a quick overview

Answer

For any given opening, the program can create opening overviews, i.e. repertoire suggestions, in combination with a well-maintained reference database. This means a massive facilitation of the opening preparation. In earlier versions, the user could get information about the possible continuations of an opening variation via reference display or via the live book. However, the user had to work through the possible continuations move by move.

Now the program offers the possibility to generate a structured variant tree for each opening position. With this view it is now much more comfortable to study and memorize an opening variation. This possibility is also highly interesting for users who want to rearrange their repertoire and get a quick overview of an opening system.

Let's take a look at the function with a simple example. As a trailing player you defend on 1.e4 with 1.e5 and want to avoid the main Italian variation after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Lc5 or 3.Sf6.

A somewhat passive but safe method is the alternative move 3..Le7. You want to get a quick overview of this play.

The function "Survey" is available above the notation window.

Now make the following settings for a first try:

We select the setting "Club" and "Black". Now you can create the overview and transfer it to the notation window via "Copy".

The result looks like this:

The overview thus represents the tree from the point of view of the selected color. For this color, the program selects an optimal move and then executes all plausible responses.

An important aspect in the selection of an opening variation is, of course, personal preferences of the user. This aspect is taken into account by the program and it offers the possibility to determine the style of the repertoire suggestions according to adjustable criteria. The user can set the variant depth via the buttons Easy - Club - Tournament - Master - Encyclopedia.

If you create a repertoire that does not yet exist on the server, it will be saved there. If it already exists on the server, it can be overwritten there, if the own reference database is more current and better.
