Quick copying

Answer

After you have carried out a search you would like to copy the games into a different database. How do you do so? Well, in this case many paths lead to Rome. Here is the method for going about this example:

As is almost always the case the right mouse button comes to our help in this task. But one step at a time. After the search has been completed, you will find the results (= games) clearly and neatly listed.

Now right click on the first entry in the list and from the context menu choose under the heading Edit the entry “Select all”. What happens? You will notice that immediately all the entries in the list are highlighted in colour, in other words ready for any future manipulation.

A further right click on the highlighted entries now takes you a step further. In the context menu you once more choose Edit and then following your intention pick Copy. So: fearlessly select the entry Copy.

We now reach the next step. For the meantime the program “knows” that we want to copy the selected games. Only where to? We still have to explicitly tell the program where. To do so we now switch back to the database window and right click (yet again!)  on the icon for the database into which our chosen games are to be copied. From the context menu we go to our tried and trusted Edit function and then the entry PASTE.

Confirm with Yes and the games are immediately copied into the desired database.

As our example shows, using the right mouse button and working through the context menus is well worth while. You will be rewarded with a clearly smoother work flow and you will be able to concentrate on what actually interests us the most: chess pure and simple!

Tip: if you wish to copy only specific games, highlight the relevant entries by holding down the Ctrl key and left clicking on the game or list entry. Then carry out the procedure described above.

Moreover, the procedure also works after a search in our online database. After the search is finished and the results listed, mark the games to be copied and use Copy and Paste in order to save the games to a database on your hard disk.
