Transferring analyses

Answer

Question: I own the database program ChessBase and some chess program. I do not like not being able to save analyses  and import them into Chessbase – or I do not know how to do it. I would actually like to import a position from Chessbase into Fritz/Komodo and analyse it there and then import the analysis back into Chessbase. Can that be done with Komodo or Fritz?

Answer: There are many ways for pasting analysis results from an engine directly into the notation. Since our chess programs and the database use the same data format, there is no need for a special import/export!

First of all, at any time during your work with the database program or one of our chess programs you can start an engine and you can transfer the analysis results.

Let us take an example:

The screenshot shows the analysis of a position from a game. You simply start the function via the menu “Home – Add Kibitzer”.

You now have various ways to transfer the results of your analysis directly into the notation and save them there. A right click in the engine window calls up a context menu from which you choose the function “Copy to notation”.

Copy to notation” pastes the main variation calculated by the engine directly into the game notation! The main variation together with position evaluation, analysis depth and the engine used is displayed within the notation. If you are using the latest versions of the program the variations which are pasted in are highlighted in colour for clarity.

Save the game in a database and you can later access and look at the notation including your analysis with any of our chess programs or the database program.

During your analysis you have access to the Let`s Check Server. Many positions have already been analysed by other players with powerful computers and you can also copy their results directly into the notation. Here too it is a right click that gets you there.

The procedure described can be executed with any of our chess programs as well as with ChessBase.
