ChessBase as a PGN reader

Answer

On the internet the standard format for game notation is the PGN Format, which is based on pure text. A standard feature of Windows is the direct linking of file types to programs which use them. If, e.g., in Windows Explorer you double click on files with the attribute *.docx the word processor Word is automatically started.

Under File – Options – Misc you can determine if a double click on a PGN file should automatically start ChessBase.

Tick the option “Register as PGN Reader”.

In future a double click on a  PGN file will immediately launch ChessBase and you can have direct access to the contents of the PGN file.
