Working on engine matches with the chess program

Answer

A favourite way of increasing playing strength is the use of engine matches. Many of our users test their engines via the user interface in order to acquire as quickly as possible a large number of games for statistical evaluation and also for the evaluation of a specific engine. Let us assume that engine matches have taken place between two engines on four separate computers and all the games have been copied into a single database.

Anybody who values a clear representation of matters in the database list will not be pleased by the different classifications for the round numbers. In the ideal case all the entries in the games list should be numbered in a strict order.

Any of our chess programs can carry out this task automatically without any single game entry having to be edited by hand.

In the database window you open the relevant database which contains the collected games. You highlight the entries to be sorted (Ctrl – mouse click ) and after a right click you will find the function you need  “New round numbers” in the  context menu.

The program now automatically carries out the relevant numbering andclassification according to round numbers.
