Channels on playchess.com

Answer

Above the chat window you will find the tab ‘Channels’. Ths represents an extremely useful extension of the chat function. By using the channels you can communicate with participants who are in other rooms on playchess.com . The five buttons which are placed at the bottom of the window allow you to define the way the channels work to suit your requirements.

With a click on Join everything which is being said in this chat group is displayed. This small symbol in front of the channel tells you that all the messages on that channel are being shown to you.

After Switch off all the comments from this channel are suppressed. On playchess.com, e.g.,  invitations to private tournaments are often sent out. If you do not wish to take part in any tournament  simply switch off the channel for “Tournaments”.

With the button Talk communication takes place only on one selected channel, but you can follow the communication on other channels. If you wish to communicate in a channel, you can also click directly on chat which is coming in on it. Any channel in which you once chatted appears in the drop-down list  of chat addresses.

Who gives information about the number of people listening in on the channel. Because updating is not done automatically, you have to explicitly request this information via the button.

The button Who? shows a list of all the players in the channel selected.

You can sort the information in the individual columns with a click on the column heading.

You can set up a new channel via New.
