Interpreting ratings

Answer

Problem: When playing chess on the Fritz server you come across some potential players who have false ratings in the “Challenges” window compared to their real playing strength seen in the “Notation” window as the game takes place. Thus, e.g., in the “Challenges” window player " xxxxx " is shown with an Elo-rating of 1420 for 20 minute games (i.e. a long game). But if you accept to play this game, the actual playing strength turns out to be Elo  2107, i.e. roughly  700 points more. I have unfortunately come across this peculiar situation with several players. It is not clear to me whether there is a mistake in the program or whether these opponents have found some way to claim a considerably lower playing strength in “Challenges” presumably so as to more easily find opponents for a game.

Answer: When challenges are offered, according to the time the rating given is mostly the Klassische Blitz/Classic Blitz.

It is quite possible that the players affected had a clearly weaker rating in Poolblitz = Blitz than they had in Classic Blitz.

This how it looks on my machine in full screen:

The only ones displayed for the challenges are the Classic Blitz Challenges, with the appropriate "Elo-rating". So the Blitz rating for Pool Blitz can be different.
