Game of the Week #661

It would have been fitting to choose a game by the legendary world champion Boris Spassky, who passed away last week. The problem is that I don't consider myself an expert on Spassky's games and stories, so I'll leave that to others.

Interestingly, after recording the game I chose instead, by the winner of the Prague festival, Giri-Aravindh, I realised that Aravindh did indeed play in the style of the great Boris Spassky: universal, fearless, dynamic and with enormous power when things get concrete.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week's show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
