Game of the Week #512

There have been no absolute top tournaments last week but we still found a strategic masterpiece by 18-year old world class Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi, who is quickly climbing the world rankings, and is now on 61st position.

Against fellow countryman Grandmaster Chopra Aryan he slowly but surely built up the pressure, using the most refined modern postional concepts.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
