Game of the Week #587

This week the Levitov Chess Week took place in Amsterdam, a ten player double round robin rapid tournament with current top players and former world champions. Nepomniachtchi was the clear winner and while Kramnik had a tough time and finished last, Anand showed why he is still a top ten player at the age of 53.

To honour his fine performance we selected the game Anand-So as our Game of the Week, with an instructive concept leading to overwhelming attacking play.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
