Game of the Week #577

It’s that time of year! The summer tournaments have started, and I’m currently playing the Science Park Tournament in Amsterdam.

My game against Murad Abdulla from Scotland was a real adventure, so I really had to share this one with you all. At first, I thought the game was not played at a very high level, but apart from a few mistakes it was better than I had thought. At the very least, we created a really unusual struggle!

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
