My best games in the Sveshnikov My best games in the Sveshnikov

The Sveshnikov Variation of the Sicilian Defence is considered one of the most promising replies to 1.e4, often giving rise to sharp and complex positions which require precise and inventive play from both sides. Game of the Week 366

Ideas and strategies in Grandmaster games can be quite instructive. IM Merijn van Delft presents games like these every Wednesday. On this week's show:

Magnus Carlsen is convincingly leading Altibox Norway Chess, since he wins every armageddon tiebreak he ends up in. After the absolutely amazing third round, things have calmed down, as in the next three rounds alle classical games were drawn (with the exception of Grischuk's unnecessary loss). My favourite game of the week was played yesterday at the Asian Continental between Alireza Firouzja and Murali Karthikeyan, which we will study tonight.

The live show is free to watch, and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium accounts.

Warming-up question: What would you play here with Black?
