My Path to the Top My Path to the Top

On this DVD Vladimir Kramnik retraces his career from talented schoolboy to World Champion in 2006. Judit Polgar's Global Chess Festival

For the past four years Judit Polgar has hosted the Global Chess Festival, which has expanded to include many fringe events, including worldwide online tournaments. The festival culminates this weekend on October 12th in a grand finale with many colourful chess events in Budapest. Let's take a look!

The venue of the Global Chess Final is the Hungarian National Gallery in the Buda Castle in Budapest

Among the activities of the festival is a record attempt for the Guinness Book of Records. A massive worldwide online tournament brings together 20,000 chess fans in a single event.

At this weekend's festival finale in Budapest, all three Polgar sisters — Susan, Sofia and Judit — will play simultaneously. A parallel conference presents the positive effects of chess. Speakers include Professor (and Grandmaster) Ken Rogoff, Judit and Susan Polgar, Natasha Regan and Matthew Sadler, Leontxo Garcia and Juga di Prima.

Among the guests of the festival are Vladimir Kramnik, who is available for an autograph session.

In addition, there are numerous events aimed primarily at children, not least a youth tournament. Adult chess players can participate in a chess open.

Full program details are available on the official web site. The basic schedule of events is below.
