Chengdu Rd. 6: Four draws, two wins

7/9/2016 – 24 of the 36 games that have been played by now in the Women's Grand Prix in Chengdu ended in a draw, a 66% drawing percentage, unusually high for a women's tournament. But round six followed the trend: four of the six games ended in a draw, two had a winner. Mariya Muzychuk won against Pia Cramling and Antoaneta Stefanova defeated Lela Javakhishvili. Tournament leader Humpy Koneru played a short draw against Ju Wenjun and now leads with 4.5/6.

The shortest draw of the round occurred in the top encounter between tournament leader Humpy Koneru and Ju Wenjun, who trails Koneru by half-a-point. After 27 moves the fight came to an end.

The two decisive games were also the longest. Antoaneta Stefanova defeated Lela Javakhishvili in 70 moves and former Women's World Champion Mariya Muzychuk needed 82 moves to win against Pia Cramling.

After her win against Javakhishvili Stefanova now has 4.0/6 and shares places two to four with Ju Wenjun and Harika Dronavalli. They are half-a-point behind Koneru, who leads with 4.5/6.
