Game of the Week 361

Dear chess friends, please note that tonight's lecture will be one hour earlier than usual, so 19:00-20:00. The reason is, that at 21:00, Ajax will play against Tottenham Hotspur for a place in the final of the football Champions League. Here in Amsterdam everyone is very excited about it, since that didn't happen since the 1990s.

When I talk about football and chess with my best friend (a football player), we always compare Messi with Carlsen. Technically perfect, creative, and capable of doing things that nobody else ever did. In tonight's lecture we'll talk once more about Carlsen's amazing performance at the Grenke Chess Classic. How is it possible to score 7½ out of 9 in a modern elite tournament? If we have time left, we may have a look at the Sigeman & Co tournament as well.

The live show is free to watch, and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium accounts.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?
