How to play online

Chess players today have options when it comes to finding an opponent online. ChessBase has evolved to include top-notch web-based play as well as our traditional Windows software for both online and offline playing.

1) The Web App "Play.ChessBase.com" of the ChessBase Account

This is a web-based gateway — Play.ChessBase.com — to the ChessBase's Playchess server. In contrast to the programs below, you do not need to install any software, yet you gain access the full player pool of the online playchess.com server directly via your browser. This allows access on various devices (PC, Apple, Android telephone or table, iPhone or iPad), independent of the operating system.

Play as a guest or, for best experience, log in. Don't have an account? You can register a free 90-day trial.

2) Use the "Playchess.com" client  (Windows)

Playchess is our Windows-based free program to play on the ChessBase server, where you will find the same large pool of players as with play.chessbase.com.

You will immediately be able to find an opponent of your own playing strength, or if you fancy watching, you can kibitz grandmaster games and follow world-class tournaments.

Why not attend a training lesson or take part in a simultaneous exhibition against a grandmaster while you're at it? There is a room for beginners and hobby players, where you can also play without a chess clock.
