The Aeroflot Open Chess Festival, which is popular throughout the world, will be held in February 2019 for the 17th time.
The Fashionable Caro-Kann Vol.1 and 2
The Caro Kann is a very tricky opening. Black’s play is based on controlling and fighting for key light squares. It is a line which was very fashionable in late 90s and early 2000s due to the successes of greats like Karpov, Anand, Dreev etc. Recently due to strong engines lot of key developments have been made and some new lines have been introduced, while others have been refuted altogether. I have analyzed the new trends carefully and found some new ideas for Black.
This time the festival has the guaranteed prize fund amounting to EUR 140 000 (taking into account the prizes for the Blitz Tournament). Three Open Tournaments (A, B and C) are made up according to the rating of the participants and are 9-round Swiss – tournaments. Naturally, the greatest interest is aroused by A tournament, requiring from a participant a rating above 2550 and in which usually take part a number of extra class players. In addition to the Open Tournaments, a Blitz Tournament will be held within the festival.

The official accommodation for the participants and also the venue of the Tournament will be at the “Cosmos” hotel. The organisers of the Festival are the "Aeroflot-Russian Airlines", the Russian Chess Federation and the Association of Chess Federations.
The “Aeroflot Open 2019” package cost and terms of payment for participants (PDF) and for journalists and accompanying persons (PDF) are on a sliding scale based on travel zones (PDF) from various cities around the world. The earlier you book, the less expensive it will be.
The packages (all prices are in EUR) include air-ticket, accommodation with buffet breakfast and transfer Airpot-Hotel-Airport on February 18th and March 1st 2019.
