A potential challenger

Garry Kasparov praised Ian Nepomniachtchi's ability to deal with complicated tactics during the webcast of the 'chess 24 Legends of Chess' tournament. The 30-year-old is currently the fourth highest rated player in the world and the strongest Russian in terms of ratings.

Nepomniachtchi is also sharing the lead at the Candidates Tournament that had to be postponed at half-time back in March. Although Fabiano Caruana and Ding Liren are considered to be the two players that have the best chances to take down Magnus Carlsen in a match for the World Championship, 'Nepo' should not be discarded as a potential strong challenger.

In the first set of his matchup against Carlsen at the 'Legends of Chess', the Russian obtained a crushing 21-move win. How would you continue with White here?

In this series, IM Lawrence Trent uncovers a number of groundbreaking theoretical novelties and new ideas that will soon have scorners of this romantic system regretting they ever doubted its soundness.
