We are devoted to chess in America without forgetting what’s going on in the chess world at large. We cover national events and encourage reporting on chess in individual states. We do in-depth interviews, behind the scenes reporting and have great grandmasters writing notes that actually explain what’s going on. Our authors are world-class players — champions — but, above all, grandmasters and experts who are excited to share their knowledge within the chess community. No ghost-writers or “special” contributors, only fully committed authors, proud of their hard work. The job of our team of experienced international editors is merely to create a supportive environment where the work of our chess heroes can shine in full splendor.
8/2/2019 – American Chess Magazine is living up to its slogan "Celebrating The Resurgence Of US Chess" with an issue largely dedicated to Bobby Fischer's legacy including exclusive testimonials and interviews with Dr. Frank Brady, GM Borislav Ivkov, and Lou Hays, plus feature articles on Fischer's opening, middlegame and endgame exploits. There's also an extensive interview with ChessBase co-founder and lead programmer Matthias Wüllenweber.
6/21/2019 – Home run: Grandmaster and former U.S. Champion JOEL BENJAMIN muses on the effect of immigration on the US chess scene in an opinion piece reproduced with kind permission from American Chess Magazine #11. Plus ACM's reviewer FM CARSTEN HANSEN gives Yannick Pelletier's latest video series on an Anti-London repertoire the maximum five stars! It's one of "many interesting new titles and many more on the way", writes Hansen.
10/2/2018 – "Georgios Makropoulos, the person who has ruled chess for almost three decades, has barely given any interviews," starts a new interview profile of the FIDE presidential candidate on the new American Chess Magazine blog. Indeed, while ChessBase has previously published long conversations with Makropoulos' running-mate Malcolm Pein, as well as Makropoulos' rivals, self-proclaimed "insurgent candidate" GM Nigel Short and Russian economic policy expert Arkady Dvorkovich, the incumbent has declined other interview requests. We run down the topics and key quotes with kind permission of ACM. | Photo: David Llada
4/28/2018 – At 15, Annie Wang is already a world champion. Last autumn, the California-born American girl took home the gold medal at the 2017 World Youth Chess Championship U16 girls with an impressive score of 10½ / 11, two and a half points ahead of the runner-up from Russia. Her performance rating? An incredible 2589 — practically that of a grandmaster. The rising star was the pride of the nation.
2/8/2018 – American Chess Magazine #5 is out, featuring a dashing Magnus "Clark Kent" Carlsen on the cover. The issue is packed with great stories, and we present the annotated game from Vassily Ivanchuk's World Cup run. That prompted ACM reader Art Jensen to send in this photo of his own cat "Taz" enjoying the article! The issue also includes reviews of two ChessBase DVDs.
