Question: If I wish to make another database – i.e. not the Big/Mega Database – my reference database, how do I go about it?
Answer: Normally your biggest database with the best annotations and the most precise openings key should be your reference database (e.g. Big Database or Mega Database).
But you can also define another database as your reference database.
1. right click on the database symbol.
2. click on Properties.
3. activate Reference-DB.
The reference database is always among the entries in ‘My databases’. In the database window choose under View - Details, in order to see the entry Reference database in the column.
But there is an alternative option, if you are using ChessBase 14. In the bar under the menu item View you can select another database.
You can use this to change with one click the search database for the display of references in the board window. Like this you can quickly check which games with the specific position on the board are available in other big databases!
