Simple opening search

Answer

When studying a new or already frequently used game, it is immensely helpful for understanding the typical strategies and middlegame motifs to filter out suitable comparison games with the opening to be studied from the database.

In the new simplified search mask of ChessBase 17 there is the possibility to search specifically for comparison games within the database pre-selected in the database window. Since our games are already classified according to the standard ECO classification when they are saved, the new dialog offers a significant simplification compared to the search mask known from previous versions. The different assignment of ECO codes is displayed in plain text and the user can define a range for the desired comparison games if necessary.

Right-clicking on the icon of the database to be searched starts the dialog.

A click on the button Any openings opens the subdialog with the settings for the search. This looks as follows in the following example:

Thus, the dialog offers maximum comfort. The example shows that it is also possible to expand the ECO area and perform the search with it.

There are two basic procedures. If you know the ECO code for the desired opening, simply type it in the input line. If not, the dialog will show you the complete list of available ECO codes incl. plain names, here you select the search criterion via mouse click. Both procedures are shown in the screenshot.

Click on Search to start the search in the selected database and the program will offer you the comparison games to search in the list.
