Openings - View Novelties

Answer

ChessBase 16 offers you the possibility to view opening novelties from current tournaments without tedious searching. You can get this information at any time by clicking on the Live tab in the database window (the program's start screen).

By clicking on the currently displayed databases you can start the corresponding game list and view the games manually.

The games contain comments throughout and innovations (if any) are marked with the capital N within the notation.

If you are mainly interested in the innovations, double-clicking on the database „Novelties will help you quickly.

Here you can find in the game list all games in which a relevant important theoretical innovation was played! When you have loaded the game list, sort it for example by the criterion Elo (click on the column entry Elo) and load the game with the innovation.

Is the variation relevant for your repertoire? If yes, go in the notation to the move before the displayed innovation and click on the entry " Reference " to display comparison games from the locally installed reference database (usually the current Mega Database).

With this method you can instantly detect new ideas for the treatment of the preferred opening systems. This method not only refers to absolute novelties, but also shows you rarely played continuations that have only been used in a few games so far.

With the previously mentioned sorting criterion Elo you make sure that the continuations are well playable. The probability that a player with a very high rating chooses inferior or tactically incorrect continuations is statistically very low.
