Quick search for games with sacrifices

Answer

Tactics and more tactics. In the view of many experts good tactical abilities are the key to a high level of practical playing strength! So training one’s tactical abilities is an important component in home training. In their search mask ChessBase and Fritz offer a useful option with which you can quickly filter out from a database games in which sacrificial combinations occurred.

In the search this option can be found under the tab Position.

If you activate the option “Sacrifice” with a tick, the program automatically searches for all games in the database in which material is sacrificed in the short term. There is no problem combining this with other search criteria.

Example:  Player with White = “Carlsen”,  “Wins only” and the option “Sacrifice” in the position search  immediately filters out all games of  GM Carlsen from the chosen database.

The search function then immediately lists the games from the database.

The window which lists the search results offers the maximum ease for looking at the games. A click on an entry in the list  and the board window immediately displays the position and the game notation which corresponds to the search criteria. Therefore a key position with the sacrifice.

By searching for sacrifices  you rapidly find a good selection of appropriate positions for home training. Chess journalists find this function a very practical tool when looking through recent tournaments in order to weed out from the great numbers of new games and quickly find spectacular games.
