6/4/2021 – In December, on the 14th to be specific, Dutch grandmaster Jan Timman turns seventy. He was one of the world's leading players from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. He is also a prolific study composer. So it is appropriate that a Study Composition Tourney is being staged in his honour. Awards will be distributed on his birthday. For this announcement Jan has selected five of his favourite studies, composed by him, for you to solve.
10/20/2015 – Last weekend the 19th Hoogeven Chess Festival began. Most visitors come to watch the strong players in action, but they also got to see an exhibition of the Dutch painter Tjerk Zijlstra. In his works he makes use of the Lewis chessmen, and is inspired by studies by Richard Réti. Tjerk describes the artistic, philosophical, and spiritual motifs of his paintings. 8/24/2007 – In the Dutch city of Arnhem, famous for the "Bridge Too Far", a ten-player round robin is under way, led by 25-year-old Zambian IM Amon Simutowe, the most talented and exciting African chess player of our day (or ever). The event is being staged in the NH Rijnhotel, which is also hosting an interesting exhibition on Chess and Art. We bring you results, games, and sample paintings.
3/2/2007 – The Dutch enterprise is a collection of currently 14 artists who have used the theme of chess in their works. Schaakkunst organized its first exhibition in April of 2006 and is now present at chess tournaments like the Dutch Championship and Wijk aan Zee. A full exhibition will be opened next week. Samples.
