The State of Gujarat has some of the best chess infrastructure in the country of India with having an entire college dedicated to chess.

World record chess

What's this? This is an image of the Guinness World record created back in 2010 where we had highest number of people playing chess at a single location. There were nearly 20,000 people playing at the same time. And this event was organized by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi along with Gujarat State Chess Association.

Just a day ago Narendra Modi met the Prince of Bhutan and gifted him a chess set. This just shows his love towards the game of chess!

Under the able guidance of president Ajay Patel and Secretary Bhavesh Patel and the All India Chess Federation backing the event, it goes without saying that the World Youth Olympiad 2017 will be organized in the best possible manner!

The Fashionable Caro-Kann Vol.1 and 2

The Caro Kann is a very tricky opening. Black’s play is based on controlling and fighting for key light squares. It is a line which was very fashionable in late 90s and early 2000s due to the successes of greats like Karpov, Anand, Dreev etc. Recently due to strong engines lot of key developments have been made and some new lines have been introduced, while others have been refuted altogether. I have analyzed the new trends carefully and found some new ideas for Black.

The dynamic play based on a strong strategic foundation has always fascinated me, and in these DVDs I have suggested the lines which I personally prefer and employ in practice.

Kudos to Lennart Ootes for the photos of these incredibly inspiring, soon to be young men IM Nihal Sarin and IM R. Praggnanandhaa, and to Sagar for continuing coverage of India, including this enticing photographic invitation to teams around the world. Is your country not represented? Why? There's still time to register! Looking forward to seeing the coverage of this grand event in Gujarat, the land of Gandhi, ancient temples, great rivers . . . and lions! On and off the chessboard.
