5/25/2012 – Unless you have been living in a cave for the past ten years, the words “Big Brother” will first evoke thoughts of the world-wide TV phenomenon, rather than George Orwell’s classic novel. France has a particular spin-off that is now entering its sixth season, called Secret Story, starting tonight. Why are we publishing this? It is because this season, there is a chess player in the group.

Unless you have been living in a cave for the past ten years, the words “Big Brother” will first evoke thoughts of the world-wide TV phenomenon, rather than George Orwell’s classic novel. The famous reality TV show, which first debuted in Holland in 1999, and then taken up by French TV, is now seen all-over the globe, and has given to a number of spin-offs with their own flavors.

One of the most common is a celebrity version, seen in Australia, Belgium, the UK, and many more, but France has a particular one that is now entering its sixth season, called Secret Story. The basic elements of the Big Brother formula are there, such as a group of candidates, holed up in a house, cut off from the world, with secret cameras everywhere.

Teaser for Secret Story 6

The twist is that each candidate has a secret they are required to keep from the others, while they also try to find out the secrets of the others. Every candidate has a fund of ten thousand Euros which they can increase by uncovering the secrets of others, and thus eliminating them. While making an official accusation can win the fund of the other, a mistake can also cost them half their money. Two strikes and you're out.

The sixth season starts tonight, and this time there is a chess player in the group. Can you guess who it might be?
