Tournament winner Krishnan Sasikiran

Krishnan Sasikiran started the tournament with two wins and two draws. After three more wins in a row he had to play against his Swapnil S. Dhopade, who is also from India. After some maneuvering in the middlegame Krishnan Sasikiran exploited an oversight of his opponent to initiate a nice attack.

This win was crucial for Krishnan Sasikiran's tournament victory. In the last round he played against Sergey Volkov and a draw was enough for becoming sole winner.

What about the Swedish?

The Rilton Cup was initiated and financially funded by Tore Rilton (1904-1983) to give Swedish top players a chance to compete against international top players. The best Swedish player in the 46th edition of the Rilton Cup was Hans Tikkanen who scored 6.0/9 and finished 12th.

The most spectacular of the tournament was also played by a Swedish player: by Tiger Hillarp Persson who scored 5.5/9 and finished 20th. In round six he played an amazing game with a number of stunning sacrifices and quiet moves:
