Game of the Week #609

We are being spoilt at the moment with two top tournaments going on at the same time in Prague and Shenzhen. Almost too many spectacular games to choose from, so our Game of the Week could easily have been another game. However, Dubov-Giri stands out for one particular reason: it's extremely difficult to do anything against the rock-solid Giri, let alone beat him.

The novelty Dubov came up with on move 19 is fascinating, and the concept behind it even more so.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
