Game of the Week #521

While Carlsen has expressed that he would like to see someone of the new generation win the Candidates, the most steady and experienced players are dominating the first part of the tournament. Caruana and Nepomniachtchi have started well with wins - exactly the two players with World Championship match experience.

Keeping your nerves under control is indeed a matter of experience. We will examine as our Game of the Week the generation clash Nepomniachtchi-Firouzja.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
