2/23/2015 – Step-by-step, ChessBase for Android keeps on adding features, even though it is already a premium tool on mobile platforms. The latest addition to its rich feature set is a new engine that is now packaged with it: Deep Fritz 14. It is added to the ones it already came with, and if you own the app already, the update is free. Read on to learn how to use the analysis of several engines.

There is nothing quite like studying or analyzing chess on a tablet or smartphone. It is lightweight,
ultra convenient, and a joy to use.

To use the Deep Fritz 14 engine, after starting the program, click on Settings

Scroll down (swipe down is probably more accurate) and click on Engine

In the pop-up tap on Deep Fritz 14 to select it. Komodo 8 for Android is
not sold by ChessBase, and must be purchased separately.

Now go to the position of a game you wish to analyze, whether one of
your own games, or the games of others. In this case the fantastic digital
version
of Kasparov's early career games collection, published by Everyman

To start the engine, just swipe the notation to the left

After you are satisfied with the depth of analysis, you can add it to the notation

Swipe to the right to return to the notation, and now you will see the
analysis of Fritz 14, including the main line, the evaluation and the depth

Suppose you want a second opinion, and want to see what another engine
suggests. Just like asking two different grandmasters, the style will have
a profound effect on the moves and lines it suggests. Without leaving the
game, click on the device's menu button, and then tap Settings, and change
the engine. Here I will switch to Komodo 8 for Android.

Now analayze with the engine, add to the notation as above, and return. You
will now see the analyses of both engines in the notation. Don't forget to save!

Although Deep Fritz 14 may not be the absolute strongest engine, it is among the strongest, and more importantly provides a different yet powerful alterate perspective on any given position. After all, if you were studying a position and wanted a highly speculative attacking suggestion, a player other than Magnus Carlsen, even though he is no.1, mght be a better choice.
