Ankara R11: Humpy wins Women's Grand Prix

From 15th to 29th September 2012 the sixth Women's Grand Prix is taking place in Ankara, the capital of Turkey and the country’s second largest city after Istanbul. It is the last of the 2011–2012 series of elite events organised by FIDE and Global Chess. The winner of each tournament takes home 6,500 Euros, the total prize fund is 40,000 Euros. The overall winner will get a further 15,000 Euros at the end of the series, and qualifies to challenge the Women's World Champion in 2013. Starting time of the games is 15:00h (check your local time here). The final round starts five hours earlier – at 10:00 a.m. local time. Round eleven (final)

The winner of the sixth stage of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix is Humpy Koneru, who places second in the overall Grand Prix series – behind Hou Yifan. The reigning women's world champion has already clinched first place in the overall Grand Prix cycle.

Round eleven was as thrilling as it was expected. All the attention turned to the games which would identify the winner of Grand Prix in Ankara. Humpy Koneru won her game against Monika Socko comfortably, but had to wait for the final outcome of the game between Ruan Lufei and Anna Muzychuk. A victory could have given the Slovenian GM the second place in the series, but she missed a good chance for an advantage and game was drawn.

Another important game for the final standings was played between Zhao Xue and Tatiana Kosintseva. A draw guaranteed Zhao Xue the bronze medal in the Grand Prix in Ankara.

Both Turkish players Kubra Ozturk and Betul Yildiz lost in the 11th round to the higher rated Viktorija Cmilyte and Antoaneta Stefanova respectively. Munguntuul Batkhuyag won against Ju Wenjun and finished the tournament on +1.
